A SEA TO LOVE

The opinion of the admiral Angelo Mariani (former national President of the Italian Naval Legion).

The culture of the sea is an encouraging step

It isn’t the first time we think about the importance of the sea for this Country surrounded by it and the lack of a marine culture in order to preserve it.

We are also aware of the fact that people consider the sea only as a benefit to enjoy and are unaware of the fact that they can pollute it.

Unfortunately many people don’t realize that in Italy we can benefit from such an important resource that other countries don’t have, that’s why we need to preserve it with an active and far-seeing campaign for the respect and defense of the sea.

But we are still at the beginning of this process, some examples are the exploitation of sailing tourism, the highways of the sea, the implementation of marine museums and the diffusion of traditions about this topic; many sectors such as fishing, shipbuilding and merchant fleet are not able to communicate properly with each other, in addition very few activities are organized at school to raise awareness about the culture of the sea.
